Kelly Clarkson Weighs In On Taylor Swift Vocal Flap

Posted: 05 Feb 2010 11:40 AM PST

Kc

Specifically, Clarkson addressed the response to the response.

First, a recap. Sunday night, Taylor Swift turned in a less-than-stellar vocal performance at the Grammys. Public reaction, from both Twitter and the press, was brutal.

Swift soon found a defender in Scott Borchetta, the man who heads up Swift's label Big Machine Records. Borchetta's response was meek ('nobody's perfect') and defensive (detractors are 'jealous'). He also made the mistake of attacking American Idol singers.

Step right up, then Kelly Clarkson. Clarkson, America's sweetheart before Swift, wrote a biting response to Borchetta on her blog. Read 'em and weep:

"Wow …..Dear Scott Borchetta,

I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol  for producing simply vocalists that hit 'the high notes'. Thank you for that 'Captain Obvious' sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the 'right' notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is "I'll kick butt next time" or "every performance isn't going to be perfect" ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your 'humble' opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won't go according to plan or work out and that's okay.

Sincerely,

One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes ;)"

That winking emoticon doesn't fool us, Kelly. You're angry. And you're justified. One question: will there be a response to the response to the response?

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler Auditioned For Led Zeppelin In 2008

Can the recent Aerosmith saga get any more fascinating?

Yes it can.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, leader of the Other 4 - that is, the estranged-from-Steven-Tyler-four-fifths-of-Aerosmith - revealed this week some shocking news to The Pulse Of Radio (via The Guardian).

According to Perry, Tyler auditioned with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham in the months following Let Zeppelin's one-off reunion in December 2007. Singer Robert Plant, of course, did not want to pursue a lengthier reunion.

So Zep turned to Myles Kennedy - this is known. Unrevealed until today, however, is that Steven Tyler was also auditioned. And well, he was unprepared. Says Perry:

"It's something I've never talked about before,. It's a kind of window into how hard it's been to keep the [Aerosmith] partnership together.

"Steven disappeared and I called around. Somebody said he was in London trying out for Led Zeppelin."

Apparently, Tyler was under the impression that new material would be worked up. Sadly, he did not seem to have a strong command of Zeppelin's catalog. That must have been weird, right? Exactly:

"Page felt really awkward about the audition, but ultimately it was a group decision."

Aerosmith continue to assert that they may find a new singer. If they do, Aerosmith would be the second legendary band to turn down Tyler.

Alice In Chains Tour Blog: Seattle

Any show where you briefly fear for your life is cool in my book.

Early on in the set I was filming up in the balcony of the Paramount Theater and the thing started shaking. For a quick second I wondered what the odds were that a balcony could collapse under the weight of a pack of rabid Alice In Chains fans stomping up and down, but that thought didn't last long and I relaxed and enjoyed the ride.

Besides, I wouldn't really mind the thought of my obituary reading, "...met an early demise while headbanging to 'Them Bones'."

We've seen a lot of stellar audiences on tour since the new album was released, but a hometown show is always a little special, and the crowd tonight was fired up. Mosh pits, fist pumping, crowd surfing; pretty much everything you'd expect at a rock show short of a bonfire and a dude waving a crutch in the air.

I know that a hard rock band is supposed to frown and scowl a lot, but I saw a few smiles up on stage tonight too. These guys just really enjoy playing together, and it shows. The band is also loving the response they're getting as this tour rolls around the globe. Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of scowling up on stage, but that's just because a song like 'Rain When I Die' doesn't really lend itself to an ear to ear grin

So the tour is off to a great start, and I can't wait to see what kind of energy a Friday night Seattle crowd will bring. I just think I'll avoid the balcony this time...
